Bathroom & Laundry Renovation Plumbing
The plumbing is the part of a bathroom or laundry renovation you never see — and the part you'll regret most if it's done poorly. Get the rough-in wrong and you're chasing leaks behind brand-new tiles. Get it right and everything just works, quietly, for decades. Our licensed Canning Vale plumbers handle the full plumbing side of bathroom and laundry renovations across the south-east, from stripping out the old to the final fit-off.
A renovation is a big investment, and the plumbing underpins whether it lasts. It's worth having someone who's done plenty of them and knows how to work with your other trades, rather than someone treating it as a one-off.
Rough-in: the stage that matters most
Rough-in is the first-fix plumbing that goes in before the walls are closed up and the tiles go on. It's where every water point, drain and waste is set to the exact position your new layout needs. This stage has to be spot-on, because once the tiler and waterproofer have been through, moving a pipe is expensive and messy — sometimes meaning tiles come off and go back on.
During rough-in we set out and install:
- Hot and cold water points for basins, showers, baths, toilets and laundry troughs
- Drainage and waste points, set to the correct falls so water actually drains
- Floor waste positions and shower drainage
- Provisions for mixers, wall-mounted taps and concealed cisterns
- Washing machine taps and drainage in the laundry
Because we set these points precisely to your plan, your vanity, shower and fittings land exactly where the design intends — no compromises forced by a pipe sitting in the wrong spot.
Relocating points for a new layout
Most renovations aren't just a like-for-like swap — people move the shower, flip the vanity to the other wall, or turn a cramped bathroom into something that actually works for the family. That means relocating water and waste points, which is very much a licensed plumber's job. We can shift the toilet, move the basin, reposition the shower, and re-run supply and drainage to suit the new layout, all set out before the trades that follow arrive.
The same goes for laundries — relocating the trough, adding a second appliance point, or moving everything to make room for more storage. Planning these moves early keeps the whole project on track and avoids expensive surprises mid-build when something can't go where the plan assumed.
Getting the layout right on paper first
The cheapest time to change your mind is before a single pipe goes in. We're happy to look over your plans early and flag anything that'll cause grief later — a shower drain that lands on a joist, a vanity waste that's a struggle to connect, a toilet position that can't quite reach the existing sewer without an awkward run. Small adjustments on paper cost nothing; the same changes once the concrete's cut or the walls are up cost real money. A quick conversation at the design stage often saves far more than it costs, and it means the plumbing side of your renovation is smooth rather than a series of on-site compromises.
Waterproofing coordination
Waterproofing is critical in any wet area, and it has to be done in the right sequence with the plumbing. If pipe penetrations aren't set and sealed correctly before waterproofing, water can track behind the membrane and cause exactly the kind of hidden damage renovations are meant to prevent. We coordinate our rough-in with your waterproofer and tiler so penetrations are properly prepared, giving the membrane a sound base to seal to.
Getting the plumbing, waterproofing and tiling sequence right is one of the biggest reasons to have a plumber who's done plenty of renovations rather than one who does the odd bathroom now and then. The order things happen in genuinely matters.
Fit-off: bringing it together
Fit-off is the satisfying final stage — installing all the visible fixtures once the tiling and painting are done. This is where your new space actually comes to life:
- Installing basins, vanities, toilets, baths and showers
- Fitting tapware, mixers and shower fittings
- Connecting the washing machine and laundry trough
- Installing floor wastes and grates
- Testing every connection for leaks and correct operation
We test everything thoroughly before we finish, so the first time you use your new bathroom you're not discovering a drip under the vanity. If you're upgrading tapware throughout, our tap and fixture know-how means we'll match quality fittings to your design and install them properly.
Thinking about hot water and gas
A renovation is the perfect time to sort out related plumbing while things are already open and accessible. If your hot water system is ageing, replacing it now avoids doing it separately later. And if you're moving a gas point — relocating a cooktop as part of a connected kitchen reno, for instance — that's licensed gas fitting we can handle at the same time, so all your compliant paperwork comes from one trade rather than several.
Working with your builder or on your own
We work alongside builders, cabinetmakers and tilers, or directly with homeowners project-managing their own renovation. Either way, clear communication and precise set-out keep everyone moving to schedule. We're local to Canning Vale, Thornlie, Willetton, Riverton, Southern River, Harrisdale, Gosnells and Huntingdale, so we're easy to coordinate with as the job progresses and we're not driving across Perth to get to site.
All work is carried out by licensed, insured plumbers with upfront pricing — no vague estimates that balloon halfway through the project once the walls are open.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between rough-in and fit-off?
Rough-in is the first-fix plumbing that goes in before walls are closed and tiles laid — setting all the water and waste points to the exact positions your layout needs. Fit-off is the final stage where the visible fixtures (basins, toilets, tapware, showers) are installed once tiling and painting are done.
Can you move my shower and toilet to a new position?
Yes. Relocating water and waste points is licensed plumbing work and a normal part of most renovations. We can shift the toilet, basin, shower and laundry points to suit your new layout, setting everything out precisely before the tiler and waterproofer come through.
Do you handle the waterproofing too?
We coordinate closely with your waterproofer and tiler to make sure pipe penetrations are set and prepared correctly before the membrane goes on. Getting the plumbing and waterproofing sequence right is essential to prevent hidden leaks behind new tiles.
Should I replace my hot water system during the renovation?
If it's ageing, it's a sensible time — things are already open and it saves a separate job later. We can advise on whether replacement makes sense and handle it as part of the renovation, along with any gas point relocations if your reno connects to the kitchen.
